Tools & Garage Equipment Division
The Tools & Garage Equipment Division (T&GE) had its nucleus for a long time within TVS & Sons. Keeping with its tradition TVS & Sons has been a pioneer in introduction of modern technologies, machinery and productivity improvement tools in its workshops. At one point of time its workshop in Madurai was the largest in India. Being in the organized sector it had to look constantly at improving its methods and productivities. The origin of T&GE was in its capacity as the engineering department catering to the captive requirement of tools and special equipment by sourcing abroad or by its own design. Though even from 1980 the market for garage equipment was developing it was mostly driven by statutory compulsions and mainly Government policy driven. It had its attendant problems. With the liberalization the auto industry is witnessing a transformation. Hence TVS felt that viable demand could develop for such products for an organized institution to make an entry and start making contribution. Thus a nucleus was formed to explore the possibilities of converting this understanding to business reality and as result the T&GE was born.
In the initial years the activity purposely kept at low key to develop correct under- standing of future requirement of the industry and develop a basket of products, which are contemporary in technology, reliable and yet will give value of money.
For this extensive search of world market was undertaken and rigorous analysis was done utilizing its 80 years experience of the automobiles.
From 1992 the division had slowly grown with times and today forms a separate division under TVS umbrella. What once started as a one man department with resources borrowed from other sections is today a 60 member team with its own purchase, stores and other managerial infrastructure.
The T&GE mission statement reads as follows:
"T&GE aims to be a reliable and ethical supplier to the OEMs, distributors, dealers and after market for Tools and Garage Equipments required now and in future and fast achieve a premier position in this segment and continuously maintain the same by focusing on TVS core values of Trust, Value and Service."
The activities of T&GE division can be summarized as under:
- T&GE sources and supplies speciality service tools from SPX Corporation of USA to various passenger car manufactures and their authorized dealers.
- T&GE represents world renowned manufacturers of various garage equipments and gives complete range of garage equipments. It also warrants and undertakes after-warranty servicing of all these equipments. It also provides training on all such equipments and tools.
- T&GE provides one stop sourcing facility to all its customers. For this purpose it also purchases and supplies even from indigenous sources as required. It also ensures quality after sales service and training wherever required.
